Alcohols Limited is a subsidiary of the Palmer
Group, which was founded in 1805 as Goldbeaters
and Chemical Sundriesmen.
In the last century it was normal practice for the
Group, as a user of alcohol, to receive pure
spirits from a distillery under bond to which the
visiting H.M. Customs & Excise officers would add
the required toxic denaturants to convert the
products to methylated spirits. This practice
occupied a large force of excise officers so, in
1908, a limited number of licenses were granted.
These licences enabled Palmer's and a few similar
companies to received alcohol and denature for
resale to the trade; a procedure which still
applies today. A further benefit was a reduction
in the number of officers needed to administer
this procedure.
Alcohols Limited was formed in 1955 to expand the
business into a general chemical solvent
distribution business - with a number of
agreements with producers of petrochemicals -
receiving bulk material at sites in London and the
West Midlands.
Both sites are equipped with dedicated bulk
storage drumming and intermediate bulk container
lines from which we repack high-quality own label
and branded materials for distribution nationwide
via our own fleet of bulk and drum vehicles.
Customer industries include - Toiletries and
Cosmetics, Cleaning and Janitorial Products,
Contract Packing, Pharmaceutical and Medical,
Surface Coating and Chemical Manufacturing.
Increasingly we are assisting customers with the
development of new products through the
application of our blending technology and
facilities.
Today the Head Office is based in Bishop's
Stortford, Hertfordshire, and has an on-going
commitment to quality with each operating location
accredited to the Quality Management System BS EN
ISO 9001:2000. The next stage, the Environment
Management System BS EN ISO 14001:1996, is
underway and should be implemented in the very
near future. In addition the company continues to
invest in new plant and equipment. It also has
e-commerce very much at the forefront of its
development strategy.
Our potable Drinks Division - based at our West
Midlands site - produces Gin and Vodka for
numerous high-profile, own label customers thus
confirming the quality of material available. A
quality ethic which is carried throughout the
company, confirming our commitment to supplying
our expanding customer base with quality materials
and quality service whenever and whatever their
requirements. Also available from this division is
Pure Ethyl Alcohol in bond or duty paid.
